![]() TLDR: 9800s are performing well for my customers that have them and I'm starting to make the recommendation that customers start moving towards them. It helps to know if you have a lot of sites supported by central controllers or a few sites with local controllers or something else. ![]() ![]() To access the CLI you need to connect your computer to the Console Port of the Wireless LAN Controller. In Blue color are my comments on each step of the configuration. Below is the initial configuration of 5508 Wireless LAN Controller. The 5520s have some life left in them so you can keep them around for a while and phase in the 9800s depending on the way your network and sites are architected. Therefore you should have in mind that in a Centralized WiFi Architecture, all traffic from the Access Points terminate to the WLC controller and then diverted from the controller to the wired network as shown in figure below: Basic Cisco WLC Configuration. But if you're using APs that aren't supported on IOS-XE then you have to refresh those as well.īy the way - the 9100s running 802.11AX/WIFI6 OFDMA is amazing and when the clients support it - WIFI will really start to rule if it isn't already. You can get used to the IOS-XE interface though so I wouldn't sweat that too much. Where do you want to get to? The 9800s are proving to be very stable running the IOS-XE code but it is different than what you're used to. You don't say what your access points are so it's hard to tell you which way to go from a hardware support perspective and you also don't say what version of code you're running today.
